Effects of nitrous oxide and hyroxyzine on physiologic reponse

Abstract
This study was performed to evaluate the effects of nitrous oxide and hydroxyzine on human physiologic response.
Ten healthy adult volunteers were participated in this study and their systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and heart rate were measured at normal, nitrous-oxide only (control group) and nitrous-oxide + hydroxyzine (experimental group) conditions.
Also, to evaluate the analgesic effects of each medication, the electric pulpal test were done at each conditions.
The results were as follows:
1. Decrease of systolic blood pressure were observed in all groups and the degree of decrease in experimental group were greater than control group.
2. Increase of diastolic blood pressure were observed in control group except 40% and decrease were observed in experimental group except 30%. Experimental group had lower diastolic blood pressure than control at all concenturation.
3. Decrease of heart rate were observed in all groups and degree of decrease in experimental group were greater than control group.
4. Threshold of pulpal response were increase in all groups and degree of increase in control group greater than experimental group.
